Parking in the blue zone

General

A number of parking spaces in Schagen and Callantsoog are located in blue zones. You may not park in these parking spaces for longer than the time indicated on the signs. You also need a parking disc in order to park there.

When do I need to use a parking disc

In the centre of Schagen in the blue zone, you need a parking disc:

from Monday to Thursday

between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm,

on Friday (late-night shopping)

between 10:00 am and 9:00 pm,

and on Saturday

between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm.

Outside these hours and on Sunday, you do not need a parking disc to park in the blue zone.

Callantsoog

In Callantsoog, the blue zone applies every day from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm in the period from 1 April to 31 October.

Blue Zone

A blue zone is a district in which free parking is restricted. If you wish to park in these zones, you must use a parking disc. You may not park in these parking spaces for longer than the time indicated on the signs. In the centre of Schagen, you can park for 2 hours. In Callantsoog, you can park for 1 hour.

There are several ways of knowing whether you are in a blue zone:

  • There are signs at the beginning and at the end of the blue zone.
  • The parking spaces all feature a blue line. This tells you that you are parking your car in a parking space within a blue zone.

Time limit

In the centre of Schagen, you may not park in a blue zone for longer than two hours. In Callantsoog, you may not park in a blue zone for longer than one hour.

You must use a parking disc if you want to park in a blue zone.

Disabled person's parking card

A disabled driver who holds a parking permit may park in the blue zone without restriction.

Parking disc

A parking disc is a disc that shows your time of arrival at the parking space in the blue zone. The parking disc must be placed behind the windscreen of your car so that it is clearly visible. Parking discs can be purchased from various shops.

When you park in a blue zone, you set the disc to the time of your arrival in the parking space. This is done by turning the disc until it shows the correct time. You can round up the time to whole or half hours. For example:

You park in a zone in which you are allowed to park for one hour:

  • You arrive at 10:00 am. You set the parking disc to 10:00 am. You can park until 11:00 am.
  • You arrive at 3:30 pm. You set the parking disc to 3:30 pm. You can park until 4:30 pm.
  • You arrive at 10:10 am. You set the parking disc to 10:30 am. You can park until 11:30 am.
  • You arrive at 3:20 pm. You set the parking disc to 3:30 pm. You can park until 4:30 pm.

The parking disc must be placed behind the windscreen of your car so that it is clearly visible.

Costs

Parking in a blue zone is free. However, you must use a parking disc.

If you park in a blue zone without a parking disc, or if you stay there for too long, you risk getting a parking ticket.

Parking in the blue zone

If you need to park in a blue zone for longer than one or two hours, you may do so only if it is essential for your work or business. For example, you may need to use heavy equipment, and it would be too taxing to walk back and forth between your place of work and an unrestricted parking place. In some cases, you can apply for an exemption. The Municipal Executive will decide whether or not you will be granted an exemption.

An exemption comes in the form of a permit that allows you to park for longer than one hour. This permit must be placed behind the windscreen of your commercial vehicle. The permit displays the registration number of the commercial vehicle. It also states the period and the hours during which you can park for longer than the designated time.

You can apply for an exemption either digitally or in writing. For a digital application, you can use the digital form Parking permit for blue zone.

If you want to apply for an exemption in writing, make sure the application bears your name, address, signature and the date. The application should include the following information:

  • What is the exact nature of the activities you wish to perform in the blue zone?
  • Why must you park your commercial vehicle in the blue zone for your work?
Why can’t you park somewhere else?
  • What is the registration number of the commercial vehicle for which you are requesting an exemption? Do you need an exemption for any other vehicles? If so, state the registration numbers of all these vehicles on the application.
  • The place where you will be working.
  • The period within which these activities will take place.

If you apply for an exemption, please take into account that you must pay €14.95 for each commercial vehicle.
