Do you travel a lot for business, work or private reasons? You can apply for a second Dutch passport.

Making an appointment

We only work on an appointment basis. You cannot drop in without an appointment. You can make an appointment by telephone or by using the button above. Appointments are free of charge.

Submitting an application

A second Dutch passport can be obtained from the municipal authority where you live. Dutch citizens who live abroad can apply to a consulate or embassy for a second passport. Or to aspecified municipality or border municipality.

You must come in person to the Town Hall to apply for a second passport. You must meet a number of requirements to be able to apply for a second passport.

When are you eligible for a second passport?

  • If you travel regularly to countries which have a visa requirement. You may be unable to use your passport because it is held in an embassy due to a visa application. It is not possible to apply for a second passport for countries to which you can travel with a Dutch identity card. In that case, you can use your identity card.
  • If you travel to countries which are in conflict with each other. In that case, the stamps in your passport could cause problems for you when you enter another country. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has a list of countries in conflict.

What are the requirements?

  • A document which shows that the country you want to visit is in conflict with a country whose stamps appear on your passport
  • Proof that you regularly have to travel to countries with a visa requirement
  • Proof that your passport is in a consulate due to a visa application
  • In the case of a business trip: a recent declaration from your employer on original, letterheaded notepaper or an excerpt from the Chamber of Commerce
  • Other, similar documents

Do you wish to renew your current second passport? You will still have to provide evidence that you need a second passport.

What you need to bring with you

  • A passport photo which meets the requirements.
  • Your old passport and/or identity card. Even if they have expired.
  • Cash or your bank card. 

Costs

A second passport costs € 83,85.

Delivery time

You can collect your business passport about 5 working days after your application. We will keep your business passport for a maximum of 3 months.

We work by appointment only, including collection.

Validity

A second passport is valid for 2 years.

Urgency

Do you need a second passport urgently? You can make an appointment for an urgent application. This will take one working day. You must make an application before 3:00 PM and collect the passport the next working day after 10:00 AM. You will have to pay the amount of € 57,05, in addition to the cost of the passport. 

For which countries?

You can use a second passport to prove that you are the person who appears in the passport. This is also known as proving your identity. And for travelling to countries all over the world.

Lost passport

Have you lost your second passport? Please inform us digitally as soon as possible. You do not need to go to the police first to report the loss.
