Certified copy or extract
General
The municipal authority can issue a certified copy of some documents. For example: a copy of your passport or driving licence. The municipal civil servant certifies that the copy is a true copy of the original document.
We only work on an appointment basis. Walk-ins are not permitted. You can make an appointment by telephone or by using the button above. Or call us on (0224) 210 400 to make an appointment. Appointments are free of charge.
Submitting an application
You must come in person to the Town Hall to apply for a certified copy.
What you need to bring with you
- The original document.
- A valid identity document
- Cash or your bank card.

Delivery time
You will be able to take the certified copy home with you.
Validity
The organisation or company which has requested the certified copy determines how long a certified copy is valid.
Documents which can be certified
- Dutch driving licence.
- Dutch travel document.
- Contract.
- Declaration.
When do I need a certified copy?
You may need a certified copy for:
- Formal transactions. For example: buying a house.
- Cases when you do not wish to surrender your document to another person. For example: a copy of an identity document.
The municipality does not certify copies of diplomas and certificates. You should apply to the school or college which issued the diploma or certificate. The municipality does not certify copies of ecclesiastical documents.
For whom?
You do not need to be a registered resident of Schagen.
Foreign documents
The municipal authority exclusively certifies copies of Dutch travel documents.
Certifying a copy of a foreign identity document
You can have a foreign identity document certified by the consulate or embassy of the country concerned.
